Uncovering the Hidden Gems of Cambodia: A Personal Journey

Cambodia is a country with a rich history and culture, and it offers much more than just the iconic temples of Angkor Wat. From the mouthwatering aroma of freshly cooked amok to the warm smiles and friendly nature of the locals, there is so much to discover and appreciate in this beautiful country.

A country that suffered in the past is looking the future straight in the eyes. High sky rises are springing up like lotus flowers in the rivers in Phnom Penh. Maybe the Khmers cross roads again with the glory of their past. Hard work and optimism is probably the key to regarding the glory of the past. Their civilization like many others collapsed, but maybe like everything in life its a circle, and every end, is a new beginning.

Grab a beer with the locals when they call you, there is always time and space for an ice cold one. Chat to them about their daily life, what they like and what not. You will be amazed by their humbleness and honesty. Pure people are rare nowadays, and you’ll find them in abundance in Cambodia.

If you have the opportunity, make sure to take the bus from Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh. You will get the chance to cross the Mekong river by the Tsubasa bridge, the longest bridge in Cambodia and the longest river in South East Asia. This crossing was only available by ferry in the past. Mekong, a natural boundary in South East Asia has mostly divided the region through the years rather than uniting it due to its difficulty to navigate it.

Cambodia is a country with a rich and fascinating culture and history, with many different elements to explore and discover. Whether you’re interested in ancient temples, traditional music and dance, delicious food, or Buddhism, there is something for everyone to enjoy in Cambodia.

While there is much more to write, I believe it’s best experienced firsthand. Allow yourself the opportunity to explore and uncover the hidden gems on your own.
